Drop-in yoga classes in Taghazout Bay

As a yoga teacher, I understand why many flock to Taghazout for a yoga and surf retreat. It was writing a review of a surf and yoga holiday that brought me to the village in 2018.

Traditionally, it has been Taghazout’s surf spots that drew in the crowds. Nowadays, there are as many places to practice yoga as there are waves!

You don’t have to come on an organized retreat to enjoy yoga in Taghazout; yoga studios here have adapted to travellers' needs and cater to the digital nomads passing through by offering drop-in classes without membership fees.

In the surf season, from October to April, you can try different classes from the many international teachers who come to cater to the seasonal demand in classes.

Whether it’s your first yoga lesson, or you’re rediscovering and deepening your yoga practice while in the Taghazout area. Here are some places offering yoga classes when you feel like it’s time to roll out a mat and find your flow.

Sunset-flooded roof terrace yoga

Surf Berbere

One of the original Taghazout surf camps, offers atmospheric sunset classes aimed at surfers with paddled-out arms on their large, open, ocean-facing roof terrace. Perfect for yoga with the sound of the ocean and tuning into the expanse of nature with the limitless sky as your ceiling. You can contact them through their social media or website for more information.

Ocean-facing indoor yoga studios

Amouage by Surf Maroc

Their beautiful ocean-facing studio is one of the few indoor studios in the area. Indoor usually means clean and calm, which is not always true with outdoor studios, i.e., beaches or rooftops. The glass-fronted studio at Amouage is a lovely option if you feel like a focused, sheltered practice away from the wind. They offer early morning, sunset, and other classes during the day. As well as experienced teachers and quality yoga mats and props. For more info on their studio and schedule, click here.

Paradis Plage, Imi Ouaddar

One of the original beachside resorts, their beachfront yoga shala is still one of the best yoga studios in the area. With floor-to-ceiling glass and smooth wooden floors, it’s an inspiring and peaceful space to practice. In-house teacher Karsten has been with them for several years. Offering three daily classes: an early dynamic morning flow, a mid-morning exploratory workshop-style class, and a blissful sunset yin practice. Check their yoga page for times and pricing—reservation required.

Blue Mind Tamraght

A surf and yoga camp owned by Moroccan surfer, Khalid Tissali and his German yoga teacher wife, Sandra. Located in the upper part of the village, their cosy glass-fronted yoga shala studio offers daily sunset classes to in-house guests, and by reservation for others. They also have a few early morning classes if that is your preference. Book via social media.

For yoga lessons at the beach

We Are Ocean Tribe, Tamraght

A quintessential beachside yoga deck and shala. This simple yet charming wooden hut overlooks Devil’s Rock. With an outdoor platform for classes opening onto the beach, and a small indoor space if it’s windy, too hot etc. Beach Clean ups are held on Saturday afternoons, which is great for meeting like-minded people in the area. Their weekly class schedule is posted on a board outside the studio, or via Instagram.

A yoga shala in peaceful gardens

Kalananda Yoga School, Aourir

The serene yoga retreat space at Kalananda is tucked away amongst the banana farms of Aourir: a purpose-built yoga shala and ever-evolving permaculture gardens. The spacious indoor studio is well-stocked with yoga equipment. The shala is filled with light, and it’s floor-to-ceiling glass windows overlook their pretty organic gardens. Regular weekly classes run alongside day retreats, workshops, and trainings. Class schedule on their website and social media. First-time visitors - be sure to allow enough time to find the entrance, it can be hard to find.

Five-star hotel yoga studio experience

OmYoga at Fairmont Taghazout Bay

OmYoga has a few well-appointed yoga studios in Morocco; their stunning deluxe Taghazout yoga base is at the Fairmont Taghazout Bay Hotel. Their daily schedule, see here, offers a variety of classes from power to yin to aerial yoga. Suitable for all levels, i.e., beginner to advanced. Classes are 200 dhs per class; they also offer class packs or a monthly price if you plan to do a few classes, or are visiting for longer.

We have yet to visit, but we also hear great things about a new community-centric studio at Hey Yallah. Check their Instagram here for schedule.

Thank you for taking the time to read this round-up of yoga classes in Taghazout. Due to the fluid nature of the area, this article is updated every few months. Due to the seasonal nature of the destination, many teachers come and go, if you make any discoveries - I would love to hear about them via the contact page form. Shukran!
