What is that yin feeling?

Imagine you’ve had a super busy week.

A full social schedule, packed work days, lots of travelling, and/ or lots of physical exercise. In my recent case it was a girl’s longboarding retreat week with Be Water Collective in Imsouane. A lot of doing, socialising, travelling, and, surfing for 2-3 hours twice a day! I was feeling the buzz (and fatigue) of strong, fast, yang energy.

Towards the end of the week I felt the need to reconnect and rebalance. Be slow and present. A few of us opted out of an evening surf session. Rolled out yoga mats, set up some cork blocks, grabbed lavender eyebags, and put on a favourite Yin Spotify playlist.

As we lay on our backs, supported by our mat and other props, I said to the friends practicing with me;

‘Close your eyes. Take your attention to the natural breath. Feel the rise and fall of your chest. Start to allow your body to soften. Relax. Feel the support of the blocks, the mat, the earth, and allow gravity to hold the weight of your body.’

Et voila. It starts to happen. That deeply peaceful yin feeling. The yang energy coming back into balance. A body, mind and spirit in harmony. It happens quickly now because I’ve experienced it many times before. I feel the energy in my body like soft ripples across the ocean. I am fully present. I am relaxed. I am connected. My energy is balanced.
