Best Luxury Riads in Marrakech (300–500 Euros Per Night
Marrakech has no shortage of riads, but finding the right luxury riad between €300–€500 per night can feel overwhelming these days. This guide, based on my years of research as a writer and tour operator, rounds up the best mid-luxury riads in Marrakech: character-filled historic riads, beautifully restored palaces, and design-led boutique stays offering exceptional service.
Whether you want to stay in the Medina, the Kasbah, Gueliz, or the Palmeraie, here are the riads that truly deliver.
Best Areas to Stay in Marrakech
Staying in the Medina
Best area to stay in Marrakech for first-time visitors wanting to be in the thick of it. Stay in the Medina, and you can walk out your riad door straight into the souks and to key sights, including Ben Youssef Medersa and Koutoubia Mosque. A stay in the Medina is great if you like walking and don’t want to take lots of taxis. How to choose where to stay in Marrakech medina? I really love the western edge of the Medina, Mouassine, Bab Doukala, Bab Laksour, easy for pick up and drops off. The northern area of the Medina is quieter and more residential, which may suit returning visitors who’ve already ticked off the busy areas, like Djemma el Fna.
Kasbah & Mellah District
The Kasbah and Mellah districts are located south of the Medina, a 15-minute walk from the Djemma el Fna, or a short taxi ride. A similar vibe to the Medina, just wider streets, a smaller area, and (usually) less busy. Here you can stay in boutique riads Marrakech mid-range luxury hotels alongside the Bahia Palace, El Badi Palace, and historic sites such as the Saadian Tombs. With more space, it’s easy to find Marrakech riads with pool and spa. An ever-increasing number of interesting shops, cafés, and restaurants are popping up along Rue Riad Zitoun el Jdid and in Tinsmith’s Square, also known as Place des Ferblantiers.
Gueliz & Hivernage
Gueliz is referred to as the new part of the city, in comparison to the ancient Medina. Also known as the Ville Nouvelle, the area was created in the early 1900s under the French Protectorate. To the west of the Medina, Gueliz is where you will find the Jardins Majorelle, YSL Museum, design hotels and villas, Boulevard Mohammed V with its high street shopping, and branching off that, a number of pretty streets, home to some of the cities’ top restaurants and lively nightlife. Nearby to Gueliz is the Hivernage district, a central, leafy suburb with larger resort-hotels, rooftop bars and nightclubs.
The Palmeraie
The Palmeraie is a suburb north-east of the Marrakech Medina, home to private villas, stylish boutique retreats, family-friendly resorts, and luxury hotels. In recent years, more and more luxury riads in Marrakech 300–500 euros have opened in the Palmeraie. With land parcels sold only in 1-hectare minimum lots, it’s prized land. Some of the hotels closest in are just 10-15 mins from the Medina, yet feel worlds away, with space for sprawling gardens and generous pools. The furthest hotels can be up to a 45-minute drive, so double-check the location if you are planning to use a Palmeraie hotel as a base and want to travel regularly to the Medina. Also, note that once off the main tarred road to the Palmeraie, it can quickly become quite a bumpy, gravel track. The Palmeraie is the best area to stay in Marrakech for first-time visitors seeking peace and lush gardens.
